Trinket

Eric contacts you by Trump. 'Father is dying. Get to the throne room now.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

'on my way' responds trinket and heads towards the castle before the trump call even ends

Trinket begins to curse at herself for not preparing some form of transport to get her away from the beach quickly. She begins to run away from her beloved rockpools up towards the grassy dunes and smaller houses on the edge of amber. The road through the town up towards the city is cobbled so Trink takes care while running so the slight heel on her boots dont catch. While running past her favourite bakery she notices the apprentice has returned from his deliveries and is just starting to lead the horse into the stables

"ho there. Im in a lot of a rush, can I borrow the horse. I'll get him back to you' calls Trink to the apprentice, 'tell your master I have it, if he hasissures let me deal with him'
The apprentice simply nods his reply, too shy to speak to a princess of amber, and hands her the reins.

Trinket climbs on the unsaddled horse, flicks the reins and holds on for life while it launches into a gallop. The black horse, no young creature, hasnt gone this fast in a long while. It enjoys the freedom of galloping through the streets with his newly aquired mistresses hair and dress flicking wildy in the wind. Trink guides him through the quickest route she knows up the hill to the castle, noticing little how the building change from small village huts to larger complex structures. Her tears begin to blur her eyesite and she allows the horse to pick the safest way along the streets, guiding it only when she feels the need.

Arriving at the castle, the gates opening, trink practically flies off the horse shouting quickly to gards about tending the horse while she runs frantically towards the throne room

Syphon said...

You reach the throne room. All of your brothers and sisters are there and Oberon, your father, sits low in his throne. His face is lined and drawn.
'Ah, you're all here.' He states in a low voice. 'As some of you know I have been sick lately. I have discovered the nature of my sickness. I have been poisoned.'
Gasps ring out across the throne room.
Bleys steps forward, 'Who would dare to poison the King of Amber?' He begins staring accusingly at his brothers and sisters.
Oberon speaks slowly, 'As I will die soon, I need to find an heir to my throne.'
He holds up a green gem the size of an orange.
'The Jewel of Judgement. The 'crown' of my title and the source of my great power.' The Jewel fades and is gone.
'I have sent the Jewel into shadow. Whomever finds it and brings it back to this throne room shall be my heir and the new King of Amber. Until this is achieved Eric will serve as Regent.'
Oberon slumps in his chair and slowly disappears.
What Are You Doing?

The Foliage Ninja said...

A small part of Trinket dies with her father. Sure they had their arguments over the years, not speaking for decades sometimes, but they always returned to level ground eventually. She loved and respected the man. Broken, she turns slowly and begins walking. No reason, no purpose, not even a destination, just walking until the hurt stops. Tears continue to stream silently down her cheaks and the only sound is the clack of the heel of her boots against the stone floors. She will walk til the world makes sense again.

Syphon said...

You eventually find yourself upon the battlements of Castle Amber looking down to the city and beyond to the beach that not long ago you were happily wandering.
You hear slow clapping behind you, turning you see Bleys with a look of everlasting smugness on his face.
'Fine performance, Trink. One worthy of my theatricality. I almost believed that you were actually sad to see the old man go. It was the nuances, you see, a lesser performer would have cried loud and fallen to the floor in a heap. But as in so many things, less is more.'
He steps closer, 'But now that I've thoroughly complimented you I'm afraid the accusing begins. Why did you do it? Do you want the throne that much? And poisoning? Such a cowards way of murdering our father.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket stares blankly at this moron. She simply turns, tears still streaming, and walks away from Bleys. There is little point wasting words on fools.

Syphon said...

He laughs a little when you walk away then mutters to himself, 'Who the bloody hell was it then?'
What are you doing? Assuming you mourn overnight.

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket walks. She walks through shadow. Nothing makes sense. THe forrests change to houses, then to caves, then to barren dessert. She passes monsters before they have chance to realise that she is there. She simply walks to where the world makes no sense. Her assumption is that she is walking to Chaos, but she doesnt care. Trink just lets her feet take her where she needs to go.

Syphon said...

As you walk you feel some disturbance in shadow but you cannot pin point it. As the hours go by the disturbance grows and grows. Something is wrong with the Pattern, something Chaotic about it. Then you see it. An inky black ribbon-like tendril reaching for you.
WAYD?

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket pulls out her sais. There doesnt appear to be anything solid about these tendrils but she attemts to slice at them either way. If it doesnt work, she can always run

Syphon said...

The tendril are very solid and they deflect your blows and attempt to deliver their own. It's almost like fighting a sword with it's master several miles away. As your fight continues you begin to notice several people near you almost encircling you.
WAYD?

The Foliage Ninja said...

trinket, not liking this at all, turns and runs. Something is wrong and faceless fighters are little more then cowards. She has a strong dislike for cowards.

The Foliage Ninja said...

trink starts to shift into shadow. the world around her slowly starts to change. dessert around slowly starts sprouting flowers.

Syphon said...

As you run through shadow, someone follows you from shadow to shadow, walking in your footsteps. And the inky ribbon lunges at you attempting to strike you in the shoulder.
wayd?

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket spins quickly and strikes the tentacle with her sai. 'So there is no out running this bastard' mutters Trink. She begins to fight defencively against the tentacle. Constantly spinning, turning and rolling before it has chance to strike her. Leaving obvious opening and flaws in the tentacles fight so she runs little chance of losing her advantage. Trink begins to direct the fight along her already trodden footsteps in an attempt to get to whom ever is following her and hopefully locate the tentacles source.

Syphon said...

As you defend yourself against the ribbon, the man who is following you comes into view. He looks to be in his twenties but you know age has no real meaning in the world of Amber. His eyes are black and he moves stiffly. 'You must come to the master, Trinket.' he says with no feeling. 'Stop fighting him.' He then reaches his arms out to try to touch you.
wayd?

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket jumps back. 'I will stop fighting if you stop trying to trap me! call off your tentacle and I'll talk. Keep it up and I'll just run!'

Syphon said...

The tendril backs off a little as does the man. Then the tendril embeds itself into the ground. Pretty soon a large man drags himself towards you along the ribbon. When he gets within three meters of you the ribbon retracts into his hand. 'Greeting Trinket. I'm Belerphon. I'm very sorry to approach you in this manner but my message is very important. I speak on behalf of the Courts of Chaos. They want it to be known that we had no part in Oberon's death and as a great child of chaos, he will be mourned. As such all hostilities will cease for twelve Amber days. Please ensure the courts of Amber receive this message.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

'fair enough. May I ask why you decided to attack me to give me a message?'

Syphon said...

'I was attempting to bring you to me using the Logrus Tendril. Bringing myself here makes me vulnerable to attack. I had to know you wouldn't kill me as I arrived.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

'fair answer. I will take your message. IS there any other news you wish to give me, or any way I can prove your statement to the courts? IF there is not, fair enough, but I can not gaurentee the courts will believe my word is all' responds Trinket, still gripping tightly to her sais. She never fully trusts this man. 'May I also ask if your minion here has a name? just out of curiosity'

Syphon said...

'Minion?' he smiles 'I like this word. His name is Jared. As for a way to prove my statement came from the Courts of Chaos, take this coin. It has my sigil on it and should be proof enough.' He hands you a black coin the size of your palm. 'Oh and just an added bit of information. In twelve days I will be the one leading the army into Amber territory. I hope to see you on the battlefield.' With that a Logrus tendril stretches out from his hand and he is pulled, with Jared, back where he came from.

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket immediately turns on her heel and runs back towards amber. She races through shadow, uncertain of how far she has wandered in her mourning. She being to search for some form of transport back to amber. The dessert with flowers slowly grows more trees then a building and finally it shifts into a farm. Trink walks up to a horse on this farm, climbs on and flicks the reins and heads home for amber, slowing only to a trot when the horse tires. While riding Trink makes a trump call to ERic

Syphon said...

To shift shadow from desert to farmland would take about three hours of walking. Nothing to an Amberite, just wanted you to know it takes time.
You pull out Eric's Trump Card and concentrate on it, taking away the concentration for shadow riding. After about three minutes of attempted Trump Contact he still hasn't accepted the call. He may be busy. You could try again later.
wayd?

Anonymous said...

Eric eventually accepts your Trump Contact. You relay the message and he speaks, 'So it seems the Courts of Chaos didn't have anything to do with Father's death. That's troubling. It means it was probably an Amberite traitor. If you'll excuse me, I need to begin preparations for battle. Twelve days to prepare for it is a blessing, I suppose. If you're able, I would appreciate any help you could bestow to the war effort though I understand if your grief prevents it. You always were a caring person, Trink. Look after yourself.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

'If Amber needs the help, then I will do what I can Eric' responds Trinket, loyal to Amber as always. Her mourning shaken from her by the encounter, she desires to know more about her opponent. She studies the coin Belerphon handed her, trying to gleen what knowledge she can from it, before heading back to the libraries of Amber to study up on Belerphon and his minion, Jared.

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trink heads straight to the libraries. She pulls down a myriad of books on chaosians and their symbols. IF she gets desperate, she can always call one Brand to see if he has a book hoarded away, but would prefer to see what she can discover first.

The Foliage Ninja said...

she skims through the books, looking for any information on that tentacle he likes to fight with. Would be nice to know some way to defeat it, as her sais seemed to do little to it. She would also like more info on Jared. Why is he working with Belerphon? Trinket's insatiable thirst for background knowledge can be exhausting at times

Anonymous said...

When you arrive in Amber you notice the coin has ceased to look like a coin and instead it looks like black mist swirling in a coin shaped container.
You read up on Logrus Tendrils. They are how Chaosians travel through shadow but more often than not, they use them to fetch things in Shadow without having to move. Weapons aren't very effective against Logrus Tendrils unless they are imbued with the Pattern. The Pattern and the Logrus are two sides of the same power. they are repulsed by each other. So the Pattern itself can be used as a weapon against it.
Jared was a resident of Shadow Earth until Belerphon drove him crazy over the course of thirty years. Now he serves Belerphon as he believes he is the only real thing in his universe.

While you're studying in the library two of your friends round the corner. 'Trink, there you are.' Amelia and Jacket look concerned.
Jacket speaks in a low voice, 'We've just heard that Bleys knows where the Jewel of Judgement is and he's taking a few soldiers with him into shadow. What do you want to do? Should we stop him?'

The Foliage Ninja said...

trinket curses under her breath. Having to choose between a show pony possibly destroying amber from the inside, or a maniac and his minion destroying it from the outside

'tell me everything you know Jacket' says trink, 'Im kinda teetering on a difficult decision right now'

Anonymous said...

'Apparently one of his spies in the shadow has found the Jewel but instead of getting the spy to bring it to Amber, Bleys is riding out to retrieve it himself. From what they were packing it seems like they're planning on riding for a few days.'
What should we do?

The Foliage Ninja said...

Torn, trinket paces. Who can she trust? Amber needs her, but the princess doesn't want to rule her. Just to make sure she is safe. What would Bleyz do to Amber if he were in charge? What would happen to her beach? Her haunts amongst the forrest. There would be nothing real to find anymore, Bleyz would make it as fake as he is. Her thought become clear. She trumps Eric and relays all the infomation about Belephron to him, 'If you desperately need me, trump me, but I have something important to see to. Im sorry ERic'.

Anonymous said...

Eric nods in assent. 'Do what you must. I will Trump you at the last minute.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

trink decides that her friends would be best away from such danger she is about to enter when she follows Bleyz. She thanks Jacket and Amelia, then sends them off to watch the rest of her siblings and to let her know of any other dangers that may threaten her home.

Trinket heads out to the stables, packs a bag of assorted supplies. Real things mean more to Trink, so she would rather carry silly little things like food, rope and other bits, then have to find them in shadow. She preps her horse and begins to ride out into shadow after her brothers riding party

Anonymous said...

You follow Bleys's riding party just far enough behind so they can't see you and they only way you can track them is to follow their wake through shadow. They ride for hours and hours until they reach their destination. A shadow much like shadow earth with many buildings of all shapes and sizes. Plenty of places for you to hide. You see Bleys and his men enter a large building with a roller door out back and a small foyer in the front.
wayd?

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket scans the streets for any signs of watchmen that Bleyz may have posted by the doors. When she sees that the coast is clear, she heads towards the foyer with a pleasant, tourist like smile. Best to play dumb if someone confronts her.

Anonymous said...

There appears to be no one inside. Indeed, the more you search it appears the 'office' section of this building is completely deserted. When you peek into the warehouse section you see Bleys and his men and their horses a couple of meters away. There is also a man with an enormous treasure chest talking to Bleys. You are just out of earshot from them.
wayd?

The Foliage Ninja said...

Teh large boxes Trink had hidden behind muffle the conversation, so trink shuffles quietly round the room, in attempt to get within better hearing range of Bleyz and treasure man, without being discovered.

The Foliage Ninja said...

The large boxes were all stacked against some form of safety railing. Crouching low, trinket scurries along the railing towards another door on the wall of the warehouse. There are a series of filing cabinets that are conveniently closer to Bleyz, and yet delicioulsy further away from his band of cronies.

Anonymous said...

You can hear Bleys and his spy perfectly from here.
'So show me already,' Bleys sounds impatient.
'Yes, of course.' he opens the chest revealing a gem the size of an orange and a deep, brilliant green.
Bleys's eyes grow wide, 'How did you do this?'
'Sir, this shadow has the technology to create objects without leaving a magical trace so even to the great Fiona it'll look genuine.
'But it will have no power whatsoever?'
The spy nodded. 'Yes. anyone who touches it will know it's a powerless fake.

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket knits her brow. What is this cretin doing?!?!?! This isnt right, and shouldnt be done. The Courts of Chaos are about to wage war on Amber, and Bleyz is attempting to take control of it. To what end? This is madness, if Chaos takes over Amber, there will be nothing for him to rule over. She decides she must find a way to remove this gem and the creator, and keep them forever away from Bleyz's company.

Bleys stops suddenly, his hand to his brow.
'Are you alright, sir?' his spy looks concerned.
'Yeah, it's just someone trying to Trump me. I don't want anyone to see this place so I just need to concentrate hard to keep them out. Eventually they'll give up.'
A moment passes and Bleys straightens again.
'Ah, better.' he grabs the fake Jewel and calls to his riders, 'Mount up, people. We ride for Amber.'
It's at this moment that you feel the psychic pressure of a Trump Call.
WAYD?

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trink notices that Bleyz and his men generally fluff about while getting ready to ride out. Moron is so obsessed with how he looks, Hes spending ages just adjusting his clothes while his men set up banners and such. Probably for his 'victory ride' into Amber with his fake gem. The thought of it makes Trinket's blood boil. Trink keeps her eyes on Bleyz and his cronies while taking the trump call. She runs through a spiel as quick and hushed as she can manage 'Tell me what you want and tell me quick! Bleyz has a fake gem and I need to stop him. You have precisely 2 minutes to tell me before I start running to stop this from happening!'

Anonymous said...

Eric's face appears before you. 'Trink, the fighting has begun I need your help for a special mission. But, what did you say? Bleys has found the Jewel?'

The Foliage Ninja said...

"FAKE gem" Groans Trink. 'It isnt a the real Jewel of Judgement. He has found a way to mimic it. Im in the process of undoing his mischief. This is kinda urgent Eric. Tell me what you need'

Anonymous said...

'Bleys is trying to pass off a fake gem as the real Jewel of Judgement? That's so him. All flair and no substance. Never mind the mission for now. Deal with Bleys and then contact me. We can't allow him to take the throne. The damage he'll do could negatively impact the war against Chaos.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trink ends the trump call. Bleyz and his cronies look like theyre just about ready to ride. Trink takes a good look at the treasure chest and fixes the image of it into her mind. She then starts to shift through shadow. Not wanting to go too far, just looking for a parallel universe where Bleyz hasnt arrived to pick up his bounty. The boxes and paperwork start to appear in different locations in the ware house, but little else changes. Finally she comes to one where there is an identical man with an identical chest standing in the same place. This looks right. Trink wings it, walks up to the man and comments in a disinterested voice 'I have been sent to get the gem. Show me'

Anonymous said...

The man hesitates. 'Er, I was told Bleys was coming for it himself. But, okay. Here it is.'
He opens the chest and the fake Jewel of Judgement sits on it's bed of satin.
'Is it to your liking, miss?'

The Foliage Ninja said...

trink looks at the gem. It looks the same, better check everything else to be sure. 'so its defiantely a fake? no-one can tell? not even Fiona?'

Anonymous said...

'Absolutely, it wasn't made with magic so there's not the usually magic trace you get with conjured items. No one will know it's a fake unless they touch it.'
He looks nervous. 'Is everything alright? I was expecting Bleys.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

'I know you were expecting Bleyz, but Bleyz is busy' says Trinket in a harsher tone, 'he sent me in his stead and told me to make sure that it is exactly what he asked for. If you have a problem with this, then please, contact Bleyz. However I doubt he would be too pleased about this. So if youve finished questioning the messenger, Im going to take my leave with the gem and chest thankyou'

Trinket lifts the small chest and strides away from the visibly reprimanded businessman. She shifts shadow a few times to be safe then trumps Eric

Anonymous said...

Eric answers immediately. 'Yes, Trinket? Have you stopped Bleys?'
The roar of battle and the clang of sword on sword almost deafens you.

The Foliage Ninja said...

'I didnt have time to stop him getting the fake, but I do have a way to severely hurt his pride if he tries to be all high and mighty. You sound like your in a tight spot. What do you need?'

Anonymous said...

'The forces of Chaos are matching our army pretty evenly. But there's a Chaosite taking out our best men with Logrus Tendrils. There's nothing I can do about him, he's far away from the front line and that's where my attention needs to be. I need to hold out long enough for Benedict to arrive with our reinforcements. I need you to either take him out or keep him busy until Benedict comes. Shall I pull you here?'

The Foliage Ninja said...

'Pull me there and I'll do my best'. Trinket closes her eyes in preparation to be pulled through the trump card. It isnt a requirement that eyes have to be closed, but she always feels a little naucious when it happens

Anonymous said...

Eric's hand reaches out of the Trump and firmly grasps you. For a split second you're nowhere. The silence seems deafening but then the sounds of battle clatter in your ears and you know different.
'You can open your eyes know, dear sister.'
As you do, you see the smirk on Eric's face then behind him you can see the battle. Thousands of Chaosites clash with Amberite soldiers. Death and destruction cover the hills. And from far behind the soldiers a Logrus Tendril whips into view skewering a dozen Amberites then retreating.
'That's what I need you to take care of.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket fights a wave of nausea and gazes at the tendril quite intimidated. First thing is first though, 'Eric, I need this looked after' and she hands eric the chest with the fake jewel inside. 'Do not lose it. Its the only way to bring Bleyz down to size when he attempt to usurp the throne. Understood? and while your at it, is there any other info you can tell me about the tendril? does it form any patterns or have habits? Im quite happy to go in all guns blazing, but a little info would be nice'

Anonymous said...

'I'll keep it safe. As for the tendril. I believe it is Belerphon who is using it. It does what he wills it to. Just as the Pattern does what we will it to. The Pattern is the only effective counter for the Logrus and it can be used in many different ways. In shadow it changes things, it affects chance and can be wielded by our psyche. I trust you will find a way to defeat him.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket nods then begins gathering shadow. she needs to get to this tendril quick. Of course some form of plan would be good, but she figures she can just wing it. All she has to do is distract him, right? Eric looks on in confusion of his little sisters insistence on pulling together shadow so far from the tendril, but all is revealed when the shadow finally clears to reveal a massive, fully functional Trebuchet! 'ERic, I present you a gift. If it looks like Im struggling, haul rocks at the twat. Please dont hit me, that would be appreciated greatly. Wish me luck!'

with that Trinket jumps into the sling pouch and fires herself directly at belephrons tendril. Using shadow to keep her on course, She twist and turns, pulling out her sais and sets herself up with a collision couse with the inky black tentacle.

Anonymous said...

You collide with the ribbon-thin tendril and it falls to the grassy earth under your weight. It does not react right away. It did not see you coming.
WAYD?

The Foliage Ninja said...

trinket pulls shadow around the tendril and forms large heavy chains. Fist think links of metal form around the tendril and Trinket continues to hack and slash at it with her sais. She is slowly working down the tendril, edging closer towards its base and hopefully get to Belephron himself. trinket also begins to form shadow at various places above her head, any chaosians who try to approach her, the shadow parts to reveal large boulders dropping on the heads of any who get near.

Anonymous said...

Chaosians get squashed left and right. The tendril begins to buck and thrash, the chains barely holding it down. You hear a shrill scream coming from where Belerphon should be. Another tendril appears several meters in the air and it's wrapped around something. No, someone. Amelia is screaming and struggling but stops when the razor sharp edge of the ribbon prods at her throat.
Belerphon's voice sounds in your mind, 'Surely people of stature such as ourselves can talk this out. Stop attacking my Logrus and walk to me or your friend will suffer.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

trinket scowls. lowers her sais and walks towards the center of the tendrils. 'Put her down and we will talk'

Anonymous said...

Belerphon steps out from behind an outcropping. The battered tendril recoils and disappears behind him. The other ribbon lowers Amelia to the ground then disappears also. She drops to the ground crying.
'There. Now we can talk.'
He smiles a large, wicked grin. 'I told you we'd see each other on the field of battle.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

"and I didnt doubt you. Although I am starting to think you have some sort of crush on me" responds Trinket, moving infront of Amelia as protection

Anonymous said...

He laughs. 'A crush? I merely want to play with you. Loser dies.'
You sense an attack coming, from behind!

Trinket spins her sais in her hands, quickly draws enough shadow to form a wall between herself and belephron, spins and thrust her strenght into stabbing the sais into the throat of the thing behind her. She is taken aback seeing Amelias features written into Jarods face. Shape shifters. Liars. Trinket sets her gaze and begins hacking and slashing at the creature before her. A cold rock settles in the pit of her stomach, she is not happy and is going to decimate Jarod for awakening the rage inside her

Syphon said...

The broken, twisted corpse of Jarod hits the dirt just as the last of Amelia's features are gone. His blood splattered on your sais and face.
Belerphon booms, 'Do you have any idea how long it took me to break his will? To teach him to shapeshift? He was my best slave yet.' His face turned black, he drew a massive broadsword. 'I'll return in kind!' He swings for your head.

The Foliage Ninja said...

trinket blocks his swing with her sais. He is strong. There is no denying that, and her arm beings to shake with the force of holding his blow. Still glaring with rage, trinket manipulates the world around them. Matching her mood. Cracks form in the ground around them, outcrops of rocks turn jagged and bleak. Any plantlife nearby quickly shrivels and dies. Such is Trinkets anger, she stares constantly into Belephron's eyes, her face unreadable.

Syphon said...

He brings his full strength to bear, pushing you down slowly. You realise you can't win through sheer strength alone.

The Foliage Ninja said...

the ground around Belephron begins to soften and cracks under his feet widen. Trinket smiles as he begins to lose his footing. He starts to stumble and Trinket glances the sword off her sai. She flips quickly up onto one of the jagged outcrops. Belephron glares up at her. She stands in attack pose and waves her hand at him, encouraging his attack.

Syphon said...

Belerphon throws his broadsword at you but you easily dodge it in time to see twin Logrus Tendrils speeding toward you.

The Foliage Ninja said...

somersaulting backwards, trink dodges the tendrils. She uses the outcrop to her advantage and hides quite magnificently. She pulls shadow around herself to make her appearence hazey, making her much harder to spot. Boulders start appearing in the sky again and rain down on the tendrils and the ground around belephron.

Syphon said...

You can hear him cursing. Then he rises into the air, his tendrils implanted in the ground, keeping him aloft.
'I expected a daughter of Amber to fight with dignity. Perhaps you belong in the Courts of Chaos. You certainly fight like one of us. Using dirty tricks. Come out of hiding, help me defeat your brothers and you will be treated as a queen in chaos.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket, using shadow again, creates a crossbow that launches saw blades instead of arrows. She hurls herself ontop of the outcrop, takes aim and shoots at the base of the tendrils. Cutting them through and sending Belephron falling to the ground. Glaring from the dirt he looks up at Trinket. Her face once again unreadable, the anger still sitting in the pit of her stomach. 'You cheated first, Belephron'

Syphon said...

He leaps to his feet and sends his dark ribbons in opposite directions. After a feet or two, they appear to fade away. You realise they have penetrated this shadow and are now in an adjacent shadow.
'Very well,' Belerphon sneers, 'Come finish me off then. I tire of you.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

The weather begins to be manipulated by Trinkets anger. Heavy storm clouds form, spewing rain and hail and flashing lightning across the sky. Trinket runs and jumps down towards Belphron, sais in attack position

Syphon said...

One of the tendrils comes back into view. It is wrapped around a shotgun. Belerphon cocks it and pulls the trigger. CLICK! You land on him, sais penetrating his chest. Over and over you stab and slice, working out your anger. Then it becomes too much and he uses his remaining tendril to pull him through shadow. A coward's retreat.
WAYD?

The Foliage Ninja said...

Coward! Liar! Trinket take off into shadow after belephron running as fast as she can. She can run all night as long as she doesnt lose sight of him.

Syphon said...

You run. He's being dragged along the ground by his tendril. He uses his other tendril to strike the ground. Dirt clouds into the air obstructing your view. When it clears, there's three Belerphons each being dragged in different directions.
WAYD?

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket looks towards the 3 Belephrons. The darn things all look the same. She fights the desire for vengeance, practicality sways her. It is pointless to chase revenge when Amber still needs protecting. She walks til she can find a horse, mounts and rides back to Eric. Needing to to talk with someone real after having to draw so many objects out of shadow. Her anger cools as she rides, seemingly oblivious, through the battle untouched.

Syphon said...

As you approach the Amberite's front you hear a mighty horn blow as Benedict comes riding in front of his 1000 strong cavalry reinforcements. The battle ends quickly and Eric invites you and Benedict into his command tent.
Benedict quickly picks up a cup of ale, 'A great victory was fought and won here today, thanks to the soldiers and the ones commanding them. A toast!'

The Foliage Ninja said...

Raising a glass, Trinket sips quietly from the cider. Turns to Eric, 'I need that case back'. Not wanting to seem rude, however she is highly concerned for it.

Syphon said...

'Ah, of course. Here it is.' Eric hands you your case. 'You did very well against that Logrus user. Without your efforts I do not think we would have held out long enough for Benedict to get here.'
Benedict looks up, 'Well done, Trinket. I never thought I'd hear of your great deeds on the battlefield.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

'you and I both brother' responds Trinket, continuing to sip her cider. 'Do you need me for anything else, or may I return to Amber? much to do as always'

Syphon said...

'No, no, you can go. Again, thank you for your help, Trinket.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket nods then mounts the horse she found earlier and rides back to amber. All appears to be quiet in Amber for now. Bleyz obviously hasnt made his grab for the throne yet. Believing she has earn a small reward, Trinket wanders among the trees on the edge of Amber, as always on the hunt for real treasures and finds to hang on her trinket belt. As she walks, she hums a simple tune ducking and weaving amongst the bases of the large trees. She spots something glinting in the sunlight under one of the masses of gnarled roots.

You sweep aside the underbrush to find several bright green gems. Identical to the Jewel Of Judgement.

The Foliage Ninja said...

Looking round to see if there are any signs of passing, she spies no footprints or markings of any sorts. Picking up the gems and slowly turning them over in her hands. They look as though they have been planted there by someone, so surely there must be a clue as to whom. Trinket gathers the gems and continues to look around the root and undergrowth for any clues.

You do not find any clues as to how these gems came to be here.

The Foliage Ninja said...

Uncertain of what to do, trinket gathers up the gems and decides to stash them with the fake she had gotten earlier. Should Bleyz make a grab for the throne, more fake gems would give a better ground for her argument. hanging the gems off her belt, she heads towards Castle Amber and her carefully stashed fake gem.

When you get close to Amber's gates, Jacket runs up to you, 'What happened? How could you let Bleys get the Jewel of Judgement? He's already taken up the throne and he's having people searched before they can enter the castle. What are we going to do?'

The Foliage Ninja said...

'Calm down Jacket' says Trinket 'He doesnt hold all the cards he thinks he does, I still ahve a couple of aces up my sleeve. How long has he been in power? I wasnt gone for long, tell me all the details' trinket listens to jacket and begins to make a trump call to Eric to see what he knows on the situation before she has to charge in there all guns blazing.

Anonymous said...

'He's been in power since yesterday. It's been hell. Bleys has replaced the guards in the castle keep with his own cronies and they're pushing all the servants around.'
Eric answers the Trump call, his disembodied head appear within the floating trump rectangle with a smile from ear to ear. 'What's up, Trink?'

The Foliage Ninja said...

bleyz is n chrge. ARe you aware of this? Can you give me any info on his usurping the throne?

Eric looked surprised. 'I had no idea. He found the Jewel?'

The Foliage Ninja said...

'he has a fake. I promise you he has a fake. Going to bring him back to reality, was hoping to get some more info out of you. Looks like youre as clued up as me. Oh well. thanks Eric'. Trink ends the call, fixes her stare then walks towards the entry. Lets take this bastard out.

Trink ignores the cronie and continues to walk to towards the castle. The cronie attempts to grab at trink as she passes, as his hand touches her shoulder, quick as a flash trinket grabs him and breaks his wrist. Glaring at the man she states clearly 'you dare touch a princess of Amber? You dont dare touch me. Never touch me. Understood' This is a command, not a question. The other cronies, unsure of what to do. Some step back, others full of bravado attempt to attack trinket in a group. She pulls her sais, but rather then waste time, she runs straight for the hiding place of the fake jewel she stashed. If she cant make it, she will contact eric, but as usual would prefer to do this alone. She will still challenge bleyz withoug the fake, but would prefer to have it in her possession.

Anonymous said...

You reach the fake gem but the guards catch up, surrounding you in a hallway. They have their swords drawn. 'Princess or no princess. Everyone gets searched. Lord Bleys has warned of a Chaosite plot to take the castle. Will you submit?'

The Foliage Ninja said...

'A lord with a fake gem! I have the jewel of judgement too' She pulls one of the fakes from her belt 'What say you now? let me pass or I will break you all. Consider this your final warning'

Anonymous said...

They get in an uproar. 'That's it! Lord Bleys said the Chaosite agent would have a fake Jewel. Who are you? Shift your form from that of our Princess. You are fooling nobody, chaos scum!' They come forward, swords pointed at your throat.

The Foliage Ninja said...

trinket sees it all in slow motion. They are cronies, weaklings, bleyz was never one to pick better soldiers. She steps aside as one lunges at her and she plunges her sai in his back. Another leaps forward but she cuts his throat out while still removing her sai from the firsts back. Spinning she deflects the blows of two more cronies and deals them with mortal wounds. The final makes a foolish mistake of a battle cry. Trinket simply lunges forward and stabs him in the chest before he has chance to lower his raised sword. He drops to the floor and lives long enough to hear trinket utter the last words he will ever hear 'you were warned'

Trinket walks into her room, lays out her trump cards and calls all her siblings aside from Bleyz. Informs them all of bleyz's usurping with a fake jewell and asks them to return to the castle to see him fall from his stolen throne.

packing away her cards, cleaning the blood off herself and taking the time to compose herself trink prepares for what is to come. She gathers the fake gems she has amassed, making sure to leave the one in the box separate to the ones she found under the tree. When she feels she is ready, in her mind she is on auto pilot. Just make it to the throne room runs through her mind. Leaving the room she drifts through the castle and finally enters the Throne room. She looks up and sees Bleyz in all his pomp. She doesnt see her other siblings. Bleyz stands and attempts to speak but Trinket cuts him off. 'You will not touch me, you will not order me. You will do nothing until our siblings arrive. This is my only warning brother' Trink narrows her gaze, almost daring him to challenge her

Bleys smirks and sits back on the throne in a nonchalant manner. He draws his fingers across his lips, 'zipping' them closed.
At this point Gerard enters the Throne Room and stoically stands by your side. Benedict, Deirdre and Fiona enter but stay at the back of the room.
Eric enters in regal style, 'So what's going on? You found the Jewel of Judgement, eh Bleys?'
Random enters quietly, comes to your side and places his hand on your shoulder, 'Are you alright?'
Bleys silently produces his green Jewel from his pocket.

'A fake?!' The shock in his voice would be more at home in a theatre. 'How dare you accuse me of attaining the throne with a fake Jewel. It's not a fake at all! I can feel the power flowing through me. The power that makes me the rightful King of Amber!' He sweeps around the room in grand gestures and addresses his speech to absolutely everyone in the room. No matter how disinterested they seem. Benedict yawns.

You hold a powerless fake Bleyz' she levels her stare, 'You come tot he castle and take up the throne without informing all of your siblings and you do so with a counterfeit gem. What say you?'

She is about to say something when a figure in his long underwear rushes into the room. When he stops you realise it's Bleys. Another Bleys. The underwear Bleys is quickly followed by his maid, Carlotta. He is seething in anger, 'I have been tied up in my wardrobe for days! It was just my luck that Carlotta finally came to iron my suits and let me go.' He draws Random's sword and points it at King Bleys, 'So who the hell are you and why are you wearing the crown?'
King Bleys draws his sword and lunges at you accidently impaling Gerard who stepped infront of you to protect you. Gerard managed to get Kind Bleys' neck in his vice-like grip. He's not going anywhere.

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket quells the rage at this creature writhing in Gerards grip. The king bleyz paws at the grip around his neck, eyes black with anger. She softens her eyes and looks at Gerard, he is injured though how badly she fears he will never tell her. She has some powder hidden on her trinket belt that alleviates pain for periods of time and sprinkles that around the wound. 'do you need more help brother?' she asks him and he grunts a no reply, although he knows that should he change his mind he only has to indicate. She turns to the Underwear Bleyz and calmly asks him to give Random back his sword. With two Bleyzes in the room, she is very uncomfortable. The one staring daggers at her under gerard is obviously an enemy, and the one in his underwear cursing seems to be the showpony she know. But after the surprises she has had today, she could do with a few less. Best to play it overly safe.

King Bleys darts his eyes all around the room searching for a way out of his predicament. He groans an otherworldly groan and before your very eyes, his skin changes into a viscous, black liquid and slips through Gerard's fingers. Gerard's wound finally takes it's toll and he collapses, sword still through his abdomen. The black liquid squelches into the corner then builds itself back up into the form of an eight foot tall Chaosite with a huge blade for a right arm.
Benedict steps to cover the exit, broadsword drawn, 'Bloody shapeshifters.'

Trinket takes a back glance at Gerard. Hes made of tough stuff that brother of hers, and he would be angry at her for worrying after him, Trink knows this so her gaze doesnt linger too long. He lunges at you with his blade arm. WAYD?

Trinket runs towards Bull at full pelt, sais firm in her grip. She screams as runs, hair flying and eyes cold. Bull's blade is inches from her chest when she completes the incantation she had prepared a few days earlier. Everyone was unaware of Trinket's sorcery and caught everyone unawares, most of all Bull. A blinding light emits from Trinket then a blast wave radious soon follows. Everything within 2m of Trinket is repelled with such force, wooden chairs shatter, floor tiles crack, glass goblets turn to dust and Bull, having not moved far from the wall he was previously crouched against, is slammed so hard against the wall that he partly returns to liquid form. Trinket doesnt hesitate and begins to hack and slash at the semi solid blob in front of her, she grabs at fabric and pulls the form away from the wall and the spattered liquid on the floor, trying to stop him reforming. 'Somebody freeze this bastard! Please!' screams Trink at her siblings

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket sighs and frowns. So she is the key to somebody elses plan. She feels defeated. What was the point? This makes no sense. Her father is dead, murdered and no closer to finder the killer. Her beloved Amber is under attack from without and within. She sees to Gerard, he is being taken away for treatment. Trinket thanks Fiona for her information, then turns to leave the room. What now she ponders, knowing that the more she thinks on it, the more she plays into Belephrons hands.

It's at this point you hears a faint melody, so low you almost didn't hear it. As you walks it gets a little louder. Now you recognise it. It's something from your childhood thousands of years ago. Back when Castle Amber was brand new. Back then your father, Oberon, doted on you so very much. Every night when he tucked you into bed he would play this tune for you on his violin. You and only you. It was a special time. After that he was always so busy protecting Amber the two of you didn't get much quality time. You've been walking for a time and you're sure now that the song is coming from Fiona's tower.

AS you stand there just outside Fiona's tower you hear footsteps coming up the stairs. It's Fiona. Her eye's widen when she sees you. 'Trink. What are you doing here?'

The Foliage Ninja said...

'the music. I know that song' Trinks eyes widen and a pleading note comes into her voice 'where is is comming from? Where is that green place behind that door?'

Fiona smiles. 'It looks like he wants to see you now. I think you should have been in on it from the start but if too many people knew, it wouldn't work. Go on, Trink. Go see him.'

As you pass through Fiona's door you feel the shift of the air. You're now in one of an infinite number of shadow realms. It is a bright and sunny day. Birds are chirping and there is the sound of running water somewhere. In the middle of the field of grass is a wooden bench and upon it sits your father, Oberon. As soon as he sees you he puts down his violin and smiles broadly.

'Yes.. about that.' He struggles to find words. 'I'm sorry. There was so much going on. This felt like the only way out. I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner. Can you ever forgive me?'
He holds his arms out for a hug but not sure if he'll get it.

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket takes a step back. She saw the man die. Her father is dead. This makes no sense. How can he be alive, it must be another shape shifter, and yet he knew her childhood song. A song he hasnt played in centuries, a song she had assumed he has long since forgotten. She looks at the lines on his face, his open arms. She wants to hug him and sob into his chest like she did when she was a little girl, back when scraped knees and unfair decisions could be fixed with such simple gestures. Back when her father was her world. Now her beautiful amber is in danger and he sits on a bench playing music from a time almost forgotten. Tears come forth, 'why?' she utters

Anonymous said...

'In a word, this.' He holds out his hand holding the Jewel of Judgement. 'It's psychically linked with me. I've been using it to defend Amber for centuries and it's started to drain me. If I didn't take a break from using it, it would end up killing me. Plus I found out about a plot to kill me so I fashioned a duplicate me to get killed, then I get the break I need while my sons and daughters protect Amber and find my killer. Though the selfish ones will be out of the way, searching for this. I needed Fiona so the plan would work but I needed you to believe I was dead so others would believe too. I'm sorry.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

'why me? Why me? Why am I the lynch pin in everyones plans?' she cries between sobs

Anonymous said...

'Oh honey, I'm sorry. I tell you what, from now on I'll discuss every plan with you first then you can opt to be in it or not.' He goes to hug you.
After a significant amount of time he broaches the subject, 'So has anyone found my would-be killer?'

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trink inwardly enjoys being able to hug her father again, even though she knows he is lying about telling her his plans if they involve her. The problem with growing up, your parents word is no longer gospel, she is wise enough when to believe him and when to stop asking for answers he will never give. She sits down on the bench and simply states 'no'. Oberon looks at her, she knows the look. She is being slightly rebuffed, but not enough that she is in trouble. Trinket sighs 'IVe been too busy' then beings to relay the story of everything that has happened since his 'death'

Anonymous said...

'Belerphon, eh? Yeah I knew his parents. Nasty ones they were. Always grasping at power, wanting Amber for themselves until I killed them. So we have Bull captive. Good. Amber is that much safer with that lunatic locked up.
Fiona has been trying to find who tried to kill me but has had no luck even with her great talents. It's made me a little suspicious. Would you check on her for me? I'd hate to have trusted her with this if she was the killer all along.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

trinket nods. She gets up, there is little left to say. She hugs her father again and turns to leave. If he needs her he will find a way to contact her. She goes to find Fiona, uncertain if she woudl still be in her tower.

Anonymous said...

You find Fiona sitting crosslegged on the stone floor of her tower conjuring water into several different sized vertical pools and gazing into them. In each there is the picture of a different room in the Castle. You can see Gerard getting medical attention and Bleys getting dressed and Brand in his library pouring over his dusty books. Fiona looks up at you, 'So how was it? Did he explain everything alright?'

The Foliage Ninja said...

'He explained what he thought I should know. You know what our father is like. He loves us but as ever, we are pawns in a bigger plan. Still, I am glad he is alive' she focuses on the pool of Gerard, although the guy is tough, she sill worrys after her brother. She asks nonchalantly, 'so who do you think tried to kill our father?'

Anonymous said...

Fiona sighs,'I had a theory it was Bleys but this Bull fiasco has messed it up. Still I can't understand why anyone of our siblings would want to gain power that way. Especially leaving Amber vulnerable without the Jewel. I've been watching most of our siblings but the only ones I don't have eyes on are Llewella, Caine, Julian and Flora. It's got to be one of them.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

why them? ARe you absolutely sure its one of our siblings? I would have thought it were a chaosite

Anonymous said...

'There was no Chaosite activity in the castle at the time father was poisoned. I had alarms set and they didn't go off. It had to be one of us.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

'ok, my next question, how do you think he was poisoned? Do you have any information on that? Like was it oral, in his food, did he absorb it through skin contact? anything?

Anonymous said...

'As far as I can tell it was in his food. But that's all we know.'
She suddenly holds her hand to her head. 'I have to go, Bull is waking up.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket does some thinking. She calls Amelia and Jacket and asks them a favour to watch Llewella, Caine, Julian, Fiona, Bleyz and Flora. She realises that they cant watch them all of the time given the large number of siblings and the fact they are all of two people, but anything they can observe would be greatly appreciated. After an exchange of pleasantries Trink leaves them to their task and she heads for the kitchens. Wondering if she can gleen some information from the kitchen staff, particularly Old Mumma Hanna. She isnt Trinkets mother, or anybodies mother for that matter, poor Mumma Hanna was rendered barren something close to a life time ago. However she is a mother figure to many and has worked in Castle Amber's kitchens ever since Trinket can remember and if any woman knows whats going on in her kitchen, its Mumma Hanna. She seems like a good place to start looking for information on who could be slipping poison into food.

Anonymous said...

As you enter the kitchens there is Mumma Hanna sitting behind her bench chopping vegetables. When she sees you enter she smiles and stands up, 'Trink!' she says with her arms out wide. After you hug she puts on a serious face, 'Oops, sorry. Princess Trinket, how can I serve you today?' A smirk cracks through her serious face.

The Foliage Ninja said...

'I demand cookies Mumma Hanna' laughs Trinket, why do always leave it so long between visits she ponders. 'How are things in the kitchens? Any of my brothers or sisters been down to visit you of late?'

Anonymous said...

Mumma Hanna smiles at you and discretely pulls a tray of cookies out from behind her bench. Your favorite cookies. And hers. She always seems to have a stash.
'The kitchens are running smoothly as always. Well since the rat event anyway. Actually, that was the last time I had a visit from your brothers and sisters. Flora was down here telling what to bake for her birthday cake when a rat ran up her leg. The entire kitchen floor was covered in rats. I was out that door quick as a flash. I'd never run that fast. Acually, come to think of it, that was the day before Oberon died.'
Her face darkened, 'I miss that kind man. I'm so very sorry for your loss, Trink.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trink hugs Mumma Hanna. SHe was always such a caring person. Pulling away trinket looks quizically at Mumma Hanna 'Rat incident? I never heard anything on a rat incident in the kitchen. Were there any signs of rats beforehand? Or afterwards for that matter?' she glances around theatrically

Syphon said...

'None. Flora said she must have screamed so loudly that the rats ran away in fear.' She chuckled.
'but i tell you what, my eardrums will never recover.'

The Foliage Ninja said...

Trinket laughs, takes another cookie for the road and promises to catch up with Mumma Hanna more often. Flora is staring to look a bit suspect. She decides to try and gather a bit more evidence before she starts staking out her sister. She heads to Oberons old chambers. Not entirely knowing what she is looking for, perhaps there is some form of evidence or something out of place that may help. She reaches the doorway before her thoughts have chance to catch up with her. She almost walks into the closed door. Swallowing hard, she turns the handle and walks slowly into her fathers old rooms.

The Foliage Ninja said...

'I was being nostalgic, Flora' responds trinket, keeping her voice even and as kind as she can. SHe has learnt from many years of experience, never argue with an angry, hysterical woman, especially when theyre a princess of Amber. 'I miss father. I was hoping that being amongst his things I could relive some of the better memories we shared', she moves over to Oberon's dresser and gazes upon the items, seeing if anything looks out of place, then picks up a small pebble she gave her father when she was a child. Surprised that he kept it. Tears prickle the edges of Trinkets eyes.
